On a slightly related note, I recently gave blood for the first time in 30-odd years. Other than feeling a bit woozy, I was OK. I'm an O negative, so I gather that's useful. I plan to keep doing it, now that I know I won't become so ill as I did in the past (hence the 30 year gap). Perhaps giving blood may be of benefit, in some way, to people with multiple myeloma?
